About Arulmigu Sri Aravindalochanar Temple , Thiruttholai Villimangalam (Rettai Tirupathi)

Irattai Tirupathi (canonically Thiruttholai-villimangalam) in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu, forms the 76th Divya Desam. Sung in 11 pasurams by Nammazhwar, it comprises two twin temples situated 100 meters apart amidst peaceful forest groves, representing the 5th and 6th temples of the Nava Tirupathi, planetary dedicated to Rahu (Devapiran) and Ketu (Aravindha Lochanan).

The name Tholai-Villi-Mangalam translates to "the place where the weighing scale (Tholai) and bow (Villi) were purified". Sage Suprabha performed penance here to clear his ancestral karmas. While preparing the yajna ground, he discovered a celestial bow and a weighing scale that were cursed souls of a Yaksha and his wife; touching them with holy water on Vishnu's command instantly liberated them into celestial beings.

At the southern temple, Sage Athreya worshipped the Lord with red lotuses; moved by his devotion, the Lord manifested with magnificent lotus-like eyes as Aravindha Lochanan (the Lotus-Eyed Lord). Devotees afflicted by severe Sarpa Doshas, Kala Sarpa Dosha, Rahu-Ketu planetary curses, and obstacles in progeny visit both twin temples to perform dual abhishekam.
