According to the Sthala Purana, when Lord Vishnu requested Goddess Lakshmi to accompany him to earth, his Vanamala (garland) transformed into the garland-shaped Malyadri hill range. The sage Agastya performed rigorous penance here, prompting the Lord to manifest as a brilliant red light, which earned him the name Jwala Narasimha. Architecturally, the temple lacks extensive historical stone structures because the Lord resides in a naturally formed cave. The site features a narrow, mystical stone staircase pathway caused by a divine split in the hill, as well as a nearby cave with a Shivalinga, highlighting the harmony between Shiva and Vishnu. The temple performs its daily rituals strictly based on the ancient Pancharatra Agama tradition.
