Sri Naan Madhiya Perumal Temple in Thiru Thalaicchanga Naanmathiyam, near Sembanarkoil in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu, is the 22nd Divya Desam. It was glorified by Thirumangai Alvar in two soulful pasurams.
The name Thalaichangadu originates from Thalai (foremost or head) and Sangu (conch). According to legend, Lord Vishnu's celestial conch, the Panchajanya, is venerated as the leader of all conches. When Chandra (the Moon God) was afflicted by a curse that caused his divine radiance to wane, he performed rigorous tapas on the banks of Chandra Pushkarini here. Pleased with his penance, Lord Vishnu appeared holding the supreme white Conch and blessed Chandra with fourfold luminous radiance (Naan Madhi meaning four crescents of brilliant light).
The Lord stands in an imposing Nindra Kolam holding His divine conch prominently forward. It is believed that worshiping Naan Madhiya Perumal removes mental depression, lunar doshas (Chandra dosha), and clarity-related mental turbulence, restoring peaceful thoughts like the cooling rays of the full moon.
