Sri Nindra Narayana Perumal Temple in Thiruthankaal, near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, is the 70th Divya Desam. It was glorified in 5 pasurams by Boothathalvar and Thirumangai Alvar. The temple is dramatically situated atop a 100-foot granite hillock known as Thangalthoora.
The name Thiruthankaal denotes "the holy spot where the Lord stayed" (Thangiya). According to legend, when Goddess Mahalakshmi left Vaikuntha after a divine lovers' quarrel, She chose this cool, fragrant hillock to perform penance. Lord Narayana followed Her, halted here, and lovingly reconciled with Her. Delighted by the tranquility of the hill, the Lord chose to remain permanently standing as Nindra Narayanan.
The temple is celebrated for the divine wedding of Lord Krishna's grandson, Prince Aniruddha, with Princess Usha (daughter of King Banasura). Uniquely, the sanctum enshrines eleven divine figures standing together with the Lord, including Markandeya, Garuda, Bhrigu, and celestial attendants. Devotees climb the hill to pray for family reconciliation, reunion of separated couples, and victory over marital discord.
