About Sri Paambanaiyappa Perumal Temple , Thiruvanvandoor (Chengannur, Kerala)
Sri Paambanaiyappa Perumal Temple in Thiruvanvandoor, near Chengannur in Alappuzha district, Kerala, is the 88th Divya Desam. Glorified in 11 pasurams by Nammazhwar in his Thiruvaimozhi, it is the fourth among the Pancha Pandava Sthalams of Kerala, established by the fourth Pandava brother, Nakula.
The sthala is renowned as the birthplace of the authoritative Vaishnava liturgical scripture, the Narada Pancharatra. Sage Narada performed deep austerities on the banks of the Pamba river here seeking to codify the exact ritual worship, agamas, and meditative practices of Lord Narayana. Lord Vishnu manifested before Narada as Kamalanathan (Lord of the Divine Lotus), illuminating the sage's intellect and inspiring him to compose the fivefold sacred text.
The Moolavar stands in serene Nindra Kolam facing West, holding the sacred Conch, Discus, and water pitcher (Kamandalu). Worshiping at Thiruvanvandoor is believed to cure equine and veterinary afflictions, enhance animal husbandry prosperity (Nakula being the master of horses), and grant profound knowledge of temple rituals and agamas.
