The word Thetri means an elevated public hall or platform, and Aambalam denotes a temple, indicating a sanctum built upon a grand, elevated terrace.
The presiding deity is hailed as Senganmal Ranganathar because the Lord's eyes are tinted with the delicate reddish hue of blooming lotuses (Sem Kan meaning red eyes), signifying His fierce anger when destroying the enemies of His devotees, transformed instantly into compassionate maternal warmth for surrendered souls. Here, Lord Vishnu reclines serenely upon the five-headed serpent Adisesha facing East.
