Sri Thamaraiyal Kelvan Perumal Temple in Thiru Paarthanpalli (Thirunangur, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu) is the 31st Divya Desam. Glorified by Thirumangai Alvar in 10 pasurams, it is named Paarthanpalli after the Pandava prince Partha (Arjuna).
According to the sthala puranam, Arjuna undertook a nationwide pilgrimage of holy tirthas to seek divine weapons and spiritual peace. Reaching this forest near the sea, he felt an overwhelming thirst. Sage Agastya, who was performing penance nearby, instructed Arjuna to pray to Lord Krishna. Arjuna shot a divine arrow into the dry ground, causing a celestial spring of Ganga water to surge forth, creating the Shankha Saras. Lord Krishna then manifested before him holding His conch and discus as Thamaraiyal Kelvan (the beloved consort of Goddess Lakshmi) and Parthasarathy (charioteer of Partha), bestowing upon him an invincible divine sword and initiating him into the highest mysteries of dharma.
