Sri Trivikrama Perumal Temple in Thirukkoviloor, Kallakurichi district, Tamil Nadu, is the 42nd Divya Desam. Glorified in 21 pasurams by Poigai Alvar, Boothathalvar, and Thirumangai Alvar, this temple is universally revered as the Cradle of Tamil Vaishnava Hymnology.
On a stormy, pitch-dark night over 1,500 years ago, the three primeval saints—Poigai Alvar, Boothathalvar, and Peyalvar (the Mudal Alvars)—converged by divine providence in the narrow front corridor (Rezhi) of Sage Mrigandu's hermitage here. There was room only for one to lie down, two to sit, and three to stand. As they stood shoulder to shoulder in the dark, they suddenly felt a fourth presence squeezing into the cramped space. Realizing that the Supreme Divine was amidst them, Poigai Alvar lit the lamp of the earth ("Vaiyam Thagaliya..."), Boothathalvar lit the lamp of love ("Anbe Thagaliya..."), and in that blinding spiritual luminescence, Peyalvar beheld the cosmic vision of Lord Narayana with Lakshmi ("Thirukanden Pon Meni Kanden..."), birthing the Nalayira Divya Prabandham.
The sanctum sanctorum houses a gigantic wooden/granite monolith of Lord Trivikrama with His right foot raised skyward to measure the cosmos, holding His divine weapons.
