About Sri Vanamamalai Thothatrinathan Perumal Temple , Thiruvaramangai Vaanamaamalai (Nanguneri)
Sri Thothatrinatha Perumal Temple (universally celebrated as Vaanamaamalai at Nanguneri, Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu) is the 80th Divya Desam. Sung by Nammazhwar in 11 pasurams, it is one of the eight supreme Swayamvyakta Kshetras of Lord Vishnu in India and the sovereign hereditary seat of the renowned Vaanamaamalai Mutt.
The presiding deity, Sri Thothatrinathan, sits majestically in Iruntha Kolam beneath the five-headed hood of Adisesha, accompanied by Sridevi and Bhoodevi, while celestial maidens Urvashi and Tilottama fan Him with divine whisks. The temple is internationally famous for its sacred Ennai Kinaru (Oil Well): every day, large quantities of pure gingelly (sesame) oil and sandalwood paste are used for the Lord's abhishekam and poured directly into an open well inside the temple courtyard. Miraculously, over centuries of continuous pouring, the oil in the well never decays, smells, or overflows, and devotees partake of this consecrated oil as a proven divine medicine that cures skin diseases, ulcers, cancer, and arthritis.
Surrender at Vaanamaamalai is deemed equal to Srirangam and Tirumala, conferring spiritual elevation and the severance of karmic bonds.
