Sri Uyyavantha Perumal Temple in Thiruvithuvakkodu (popularly known as Anjumoorthy Kovil, near Pattambi on the banks of the sacred Bharathappuzha river in Palakkad district, Kerala) is the 93rd Divya Desam. It was immortalized in 10 heart-rending pasurams by the royal saint Kulasekhara Alvar in his Perumal Thirumozhi.
This temple is the setting for one of the greatest expressions of total surrender (Saranagati) in world religious literature. Kulasekhara Alvar sang: "Even if a mother rejects her child in anger, the crying infant clings only to that mother's feet; O Lord of Vithuvakkodu, even if You send me endless sorrows, I have no refuge except Your holy lotus feet!" (Tharuthuyaram Thadavu Vithuvakkottamma!).
According to legend, King Ambarisha performed intense penance here. To test him, the Lord manifested in four distinct directions with the attributes of the Trinity. Delighted by Ambarisha's firm devotion, the Lord established Himself in four forms of Vishnu along with a shrine for Lord Shiva, giving the temple its popular name Anjumoorthy (the Five Divine Manifestations). Devotees in desperate crises and terminal suffering pray to Abhayapradhan (the Bestower of Absolute Fearlessness), receiving divine solace.
