π About Swamimalai Murugan Temple

This is where young Murugan (Bala Murugan) taught the sacred meaning of Pranava mantra (OM) to his father Lord Shiva, earning the title "Swaminatha" (Lord Teacher). The temple represents the reversal of the traditional guru-disciple relationship, where the son becomes the teacher of the father. Swamimalai is also famous for its traditional bronze sculpture making, and the temple houses exquisite bronze idols. The 60 steps leading to the temple represent the 60-year Tamil calendar cycle.
