Sri Thadalan Perumal Temple (canonically Kaazhicheeraama Vinnagaram) in Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu, is the 34th Divya Desam. It was celebrated by Thirumangai Alvar in a dedicated decad of 10 pasurams in the Periya Thirumozhi.
The sanctum houses a breathtaking, monumental granite monolith of Lord Vishnu in His cosmic Trivikrama incarnation, colloquially named in ancient Tamil as Thadalan (meaning "the Lord who measured the earth with His sacred foot"). In this dramatic cosmic posture (Nadandha Kolam), the Lord plants His right foot firmly upon the head of King Mahabali on earth, while His left leg is hoisted skyward at a 90-degree angle toward Brahma Loka, measuring the entire upper cosmos with His toe, which Brahma washes with the celestial Ganga.
Sage Romasa (meaning "the hairy sage"), who possessed a lifespan equal to millions of Brahma kalpas (with a single body hair shedding only after a Brahma passes away), performed penance here seeking ultimate spiritual immortality. The Lord revealed His Trivikrama vision to Romasa, reassuring him that worldly longevity is fleeting and bestowing eternal life at His lotus feet.
