Ekadashi Shraddha Tithi during Pitru Paksha 2026

The Ekadashi Shraddha is performed on the Ekadashi Tithi of Pitru Paksha. This is a special Tithibased Shraddha ritual, mentioned in the scriptures under Mahalaya Shraddha. According to Hindu scriptures, Shraddha should be performed on the same Tithi, i.e., lunar on which the ancestor passed away. If an ancestor died on the Ekadashi Tithi of either Shukla or Krishna Paksha, then proper Shraddha, Tarpan and Pinda Daan should be performed for them on the Ekadashi of Pitru Paksha. Texts like the Garuda Purana and other Hindu scriptures clearly state that a Shraddha performed on the specific Tithi directly reaches the intended ancestor and fulfills its purpose. A Shraddha performed on the wrong Tithi does not reach the Pitar. Ekadashi Shraddha is especially associated with ancestors who lived a life of righteousness, selfrestraint and renunciation. Performing Shraddha on this day for saintly or ascetic ancestors is considered particularly meritorious. This observance brings peace to the souls of the ancestors and opens the path to happiness, prosperity and spiritual growth in the lives of their descendants.
