About Sri Aaduthurai Perumal Temple , Thirukkoodaloor (Aduthurai)
Sri Aaduthurai Perumal Temple, canonically celebrated as Thirukkoodaloor (near Ayyampettai in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu), is the 9th Divya Desam. It was glorified by Thirumangai Alvar in a dedicated decad of ten soulful pasurams in the Periya Thirumozhi.
The name Koodaloor originates from the divine assembly (Koodal) of all devas, rishis, and sages led by Sage Nandaka on the banks of the sacred confluence of the Cauvery and Kudamurutti rivers. When the demon Somakasura stole the sacred Vedas and concealed them in the deep ocean, the universe was engulfed in cosmic darkness. The assembled celestials performed penance here, praying to the Lord to redeem knowledge and protect creation. Answering their collective prayer, Lord Vishnu retrieved the Vedas, destroyed the demon, and safeguarded the cosmosโearning the holy title Jagathrakshaka Perumal (Protector of the Universe) or in classical Tamil, Vaiyam Kaatha Perumal.
Devotees suffering from mental distress, loss of education, or career crises visit this sacred temple seeking the grace of Jagathrakshakan, believing that the Lord who protected the cosmic Vedas will shield and guide their personal life and intellect.
