Sri Jagadeeshwarar Temple in Thiru Neeragam is the 50th Divya Desam. Glorified by Thirumangai Alvar in his Thirunedunthandakam, it is physically enshrined within the northern circumambulatory corridor of the grand Sri Ulagalantha Perumal Temple complex in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
The name Neeragam signifies Neer (water) and Agam (dwelling), venerating Lord Vishnu as the cosmic sustainer who manifests in the primordial element of water that gave birth to the universe. According to legend, Sage Akroora, the devout uncle of Lord Sri Krishna, bathed in the Yamuna and was blessed with a transcendental vision of Lord Vishnu resting upon Adisesha beneath the water. Desiring to preserve this water-borne vision of the Lord on earth, Akroora prayed at Kanchipuram, where the Lord appeared as Jagadeeshwarar (Lord of the Universe) alongside Goddess Nilamangai Valli Thayar.
