Sri Ulagalantha Perumal Temple in Thiru Ooragam (Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu) is the 49th Divya Desam. Glorified in 6 pasurams by Thirumalisai Alvar and Thirumangai Alvar, it is home to one of the most gigantic stone deities in the Hindu world: a colossal 35-foot-tall monolith of Lord Trivikrama.
The sthala purana recounts that Adisesha (the serpent king) missed witnessing the Lord's cosmic Trivikrama incarnation when He measured the universe with two strides, as Adisesha was supporting the earth beneath. Answering Adisesha's prayer, Lord Vishnu displayed His towering cosmic form with His left leg hoisted at a 90-degree angle to the sky. However, the cosmic radiance was so dazzling that Adisesha could not endure the sight. The Lord then condensed Himself into a miniature serpent form (Ooragam, meaning one that crawls) and granted peaceful darshan.
