Temple Doors Preparation
β–Ύ
Jeeyar, Archakas, and senior temple staff assemble at Bangaru Vakili (the golden door). The inner sanctum is cleaned and incense lit for the coming rituals. This marks the very beginning of the temple's daily cycle β€” a quiet, reverential preparation before the Lord is formally awakened.

Performed by Jeeyar and Archakas. Not open to public.

2:30 AM
Golla Harati / Golla Darshanam
β–Ύ
The Golla Mirasi (hereditary cowherd-attendant) symbolically awakens the Lord with a lamp wave. This is rooted in the Krishna tradition and was absorbed into Venkateswara worship centuries ago β€” the Lord is seen as a cowherd deity being gently roused from sleep. It is one of the most intimate moments of the day, performed before any other ritual.
2:30 AM
Paalu (Milk) NaivedyamFirst
β–Ύ
Fresh cow milk β€” the first food offering of the day β€” is presented to the awakened deity. This echoes the pastoral origins of the deity's iconography. Just as a cowherd would offer milk to his beloved Lord, the temple continues this ancient tradition.

πŸ› Naivedyam β€” Daily Food Offerings

The Lord is offered six meals (naivedyam) through the day. Each offering has specific items and spiritual significance rooted in Vaishnava tradition.

2:30 AM Paalu (Milk) Naivedyam
Items: Fresh cow milk β€” unboiled, from temple-maintained goshala.
The first food offering of the day. Milk symbolises purity and the pastoral origins of Venkateswara β€” the Lord as cowherd (Gopala). Just as Krishna was offered milk by the gopis, this ritual continues that ancient bond. Offered immediately after Golla Harati awakens the deity.
5:00 AM Modati Ghanta (First Bell Naivedyam)
Items: Vennai Naivedyam (fresh cow butter), Pongal (sweet rice-lentil pudding), Dadyodhana (curd rice), Chakkara Pongali (jaggery rice). The sacred bell is rung as the meal is placed before the Lord.
Considered the most spiritually significant meal of the day. "Modati Ghanta" means "first bell" β€” the bell signals the completion of this offering. Butter and curd connect to Krishna's love for dairy; Pongal is the quintessential South Indian temple prasadam. This is the Lord's "breakfast" before the day's rituals.
12:00 PM Rajabhogam β€” Midday Royal Meal
Items: Rice varieties (plain, ghee, tamarind), Pulihora (tamarind rice β€” signature offering), Chakkara Pongali, Pal Payasam (milk kheer), dal, rasam, sambar, vegetables, laddu and sweets. On festive days: Chhappan Bhog β€” 56 items.
The grandest offering β€” the Lord is served as a sovereign king. Rajabhogam means "royal meal." Pulihora (tamarind rice) is Tirumala's iconic prasadam, said to be the Lord's favourite. The 56-item spread on festivals mirrors the royal feasts of ancient Hindu courts. This midday meal sustains the deity through the afternoon's Arjitha Sevas.
5:00 PM Sayam Kaala Naivedyam
Items: Fresh fruits, milk-based sweets, Chakkara Pongali. A lighter offering as the Lord transitions from afternoon to evening.
The evening snack before the Lord is re-adorned in night attire. At 5:30 PM the deity receives fresh jewels, silks and garlands β€” the evening alankaram is grander, designed for the lamp-lit atmosphere. Sayam Kaala marks the shift from the day's intensity to the quieter nocturnal phase of worship.
9:00 PM Ratri Naivedyam
Items: Rice-based items, curd, sweets β€” a lighter night meal.
The night offering. Darshan continues after this until the queue is fully served β€” sometimes past midnight. Ratri Naivedyam sustains the Lord through the late-night darshan hours. The lighter fare reflects the winding-down of the day's cycle.
~1:30 AM Ekanta Seva β€” Final Offering
Items: Milk, fresh fruits. Offered as Annamayya keerthanas (devotional lullabies) are sung to put the Lord to sleep.
The most intimate ritual of the day. The Lord is sung to sleep with Annamacharya's compositions β€” "Jo Achyutananda" and other lullabies. Milk and fruits are the final offering before the temple closes. The divine cycle rests briefly, only to begin anew at 2:15 AM. Ekanta means "solitude" β€” this quiet moment belongs to the deity and the priests alone.
