About Veeraraghava Perumal Temple
Sri Veeraraghava Perumal Temple in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, is the 62nd Divya Desam. Celebrated in 12 pasurams by Thirumalisai Alvar and Thirumangai Alvar, it is internationally venerated as the premier Healing Kshetram (Arogya Sthalam) of Lord Vishnu, where the Lord is worshipped as Vaidya Veeraraghavan (the Supreme Divine Physician).
The sthala purana records that the pious Sage Salihotra performed severe penance, observing a vow to feed a guest before partaking of his single daily ball of pounded flour (Thiruvalloor). After a year of fasting, Lord Vishnu appeared disguised as a starving elderly brahmin. Salihotra lovingly gave his meal. The guest ate it, claimed he was still hungry, and Salihotra surrendered his own portion as well. The guest then asked: "Tevvul oor?" (In which place can I sleep?). The sage offered his humble leaf-hut. Entering the hut, the Lord transformed into His cosmic reclining form on Adisesha, placing His right hand upon Salihotra's head to bless him. The town took the name Tiruvallur from the Lord's question.
