About Pandava Thoothar Perumal Temple (Rohini Star)
Sri Pandava Dhootha Perumal Temple in Thiru Paadagam (Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu) is one of the most prominent Divya Desams in Thondai Nadu. Celebrated in 7 pasurams by Boothathalvar, Peyalvar, Thirumalisai Alvar, and Thirumangai Alvar, it enshrines one of the largest seated granite sculptures of Vishnu in South India.
When Lord Krishna went to the Kaurava royal court as an envoy (Dhootha) seeking five villages for the Pandavas to avert the catastrophic Kurukshetra war, Duryodhana and Shakuni deviously laid a trap. They concealed armed wrestlers inside a deep underground pit and laid a magnificent carpet over it, requesting Krishna to sit upon it. As soon as the Lord stepped onto the carpet, the hollow ground gave way; Lord Krishna instantly expanded into His terrifying and awe-inspiring Viswaroopa Cosmic Form, stomping His divine feet to crush the hidden assassins and shaking the very foundations of the Hastinapura palace.
Hearing the thunderous commotion, the blind King Dhritarashtra pleaded with Krishna to grant him vision solely to witness the Lord's divine form. The Lord blessed him with sight, revealed His cosmic splendour, and sat majestically in Iruntha Kolam. This temple is universally revered as the supreme parihara sthalam for natives born under the Rohini Nakshatra (the birth star of Sri Krishna).
