About Sri Sahasra Lingeswara Swamy and Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple, Ponnur

The temple complex traces its origins to 1938, when Sri Kota Jagannadha Swamy, a devout disciple, built the first shrine — Sri Sahasralingeswara Swamy Vari Temple — by collecting donations from devotees across surrounding villages. He went on to secure roughly 63 acres of wetland in the temple's name, spread across villages in the Tenali revenue division, to sustain it. Over subsequent decades, five more shrines were added within the same six-acre compound: Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple and Sri Garutmanta Swamy Temple (both consecrated in 1969, with idols carved from single black granite stones following Pratishtha rites per Vaikhanasa Agama Sastra), Sri Dasavataramula Temple (1961, housing Sri Mahavishnu and Sri Satyanarayana Swamy), Sri Kalabhairava Swamy Temple, and the more recent Sri Swarna Venkateswara Swamy Temple, consecrated on August 16, 2009. Worship follows two distinct traditions within the same complex: Saiva Agama rites govern the Sahasralingeswara and Kalabhairava shrines, while Vaikhanasa Agama rites are followed at the Garutmanta, Dasavataramula, Veeranjaneya, and Swarna Venkateswara shrines.
